It is a strategy game in which the objective is to "overthrow" the opponent's king. This is done by threatening the square the king occupies with one of his own pieces without the other player being able to protect his king by interposing a piece between his king and the piece that threatens him, moving his king to a free square or capturing the piece that is threatening him, what he brings as a result is checkmate and the end of the game.
